Huayhuash Trek

The Huayhuash range’s is one of beautiful routes in Peru, the mountains scenery is stunting wilderness route through gorgeous landscape, this route has one of best views in each high points, beautiful lakes below mountains where you can fish trouts, wild Andean Animals like Andean Geese and Condors some mammels like Vicuña, Andean foxes. This route is challenge because takes minimum eight days for enjoying about this mountain range well-know by "Touching the Void" movie - Joe Simpson and Simon Yates English mountaineers.

Day 01: Huaraz (3,100 m / 10,170 ft) - Chiquian (3,374 m / 11,069 ft) Cuartehuain (4,170 m / 13,681 ft)
Transfer from Huaraz (3,100m / 10,170ft) to the south side passing for the different towns such as; Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac and Conococha at (4,100 m / 13,448 ft) from there we can enjoy the view of Ninashanca, Jirishanca, Yerupaja then we take the east side and south East to get Chiquian (3,374 m /11,069 ft) after 6 hours and half driving we get to Cuartelhuain (4170 m /13,681 ft). and stay overnight there in tents.

Day 02: Cuartehuain (4,170 m / 13,681 ft) - Cacanan Punta Pass (4,700 m / 15,419 ft) - Mitucocha lake (4,220 m / 13,845 ft)

We start hiking from Cuartelhuain to Cacanan Punta Pass; from over there we can enjoy the nice view of Pucacocha, and see some condors.  Then, we start walk down to Mitucocha Lake at (4,220 m / 13,845 ft) once to get the campsite we enjoy the amazing view of Ninashanca, Jirishanca peaks, there are some Andean birds and we stay overnight in a tent at Mitucocha lake (4,220 m /13,845 ft)

Day 03: Mitucocha lake (4,220 m / 13,845 ft) - Carhuac Yanapunta Pass (4,650 m / 15,255 ft) - Carhuacocha (4,150 m / 13,615 ft)

From Mitucocha lake (4,220 m / 13,845ft.) We start hike up to Carhuac Yanapunta Pass (4,650 m /15,255 ft) then we walk down to the next campsite Carhuacocha (4,150 m / 13,615ft.) This campsite is below Siula Grande well-know by (touching the void) movie Joe Simpson y Simon Yates there is also Yerupaja Grande (6,634 m) which is the second highest mountain in Peru, Yerupaja Chico and Jirishanca Chico and we stay overnight in a tent at Carhuacocha (4,150 m).

Day 04: Carhuacocha (4,150 m / 13,615 ft) - Siula Pass (4,830 m / 15,846ft) - Huayhuash (4,350 m / 14,271 ft)

We start hike up from Carhuacocha (4,150 m / 13,615 ft) to Siula Pass (4,830 m / 15,846 ft) during our hiking to the pass we enjoy the beautiful view of Some Lakes such as; Quesillo (4,332 m), Siula (4,290 m) and gangranjaca (4,245 m) and mountains like; Jirishanca Grande, Jirishanca Chico and Carnicero after the pass we start hike down to Huayhuash (4,350 m / 14,271 ft) and enjoy the view of Traprecio peak, Jurao and Carnicero peaks, finally we arrive to the campsite and stay overnight at Huayhuash at (4,350 m / 14,271 ft).

Day 05: Huayhuash (4,350 m / 14,271 ft) - Portachuelo de Huayhuash Pass (4,780 m / 15,682 ft) - Viconga (4,365 m / 14,320 ft)

We start hiking from Huayhuash (4,350 m / 14,271 ft) to Portachuelo de Huayhuash Pass at (4,780 m) and during our hiking, we enjoy the view of Trapecio peak, Carnicero peak and Jurao peak and two small lakes Mitococha and Barrosococha, once to get the pass, we can enjoy the beautiful view of Cordillera Raura. Then, we go down to Viconga campsite over there are hot spring, you can relax and stay overnight in Viconga at (4,365 m / 14,320 ft), in tents.

Day 06: Viconga (4,365 m / 14,320 ft) - Punta Cuyoc Pass (4,950 m / 16,240 ft) - Elefante (4,492 m / 14,737 ft)

We start hiking up from Viconga (4,365 m / 14,320 ft) to Punta Cuyoc Pass (4,950 m / 16,240 ft) during our trek we can enjoy the view of Pumarinri peak and Cuyoc peak, Cuyoc lakes the when we get to the pass we will enjoy the nice view of Siula Grande Mountain, Jurao peak, Sarapo peak, and Yerupaja Grande and Chico peaks. After that and we can see some vicuñas and vizcachas. Finally, we arrive to the next campsite which is Elefante at (4,492 m / 14,737 ft) and stay overnight there in tents.

Day 07: Elefante (4,492 m / 14,737 ft) - Cerro San Antonio (5,020 m / 16,469 ft) - Huanacpatay (4,356 m / 14,291 ft)

We start hiking from Elefante (4,492 m) short hike up to Cerro San Antonio (5,020m) in order to enjoy the view of Siula Grande Mountain, Jurao peak, Sarapo peak, Rasac peak and Yerupaja Grande and Chico Mountains and range of Huacrish peaks; after that we continue until the next campsite Huanacpatay at (4,356 m / 14,291 ft) and stay overnight there in tents.

Day 08: Huanacpatay (4,356 m / 14,291 ft) - Huayllapa village (3,490 m /11,450 ft) - Huatiac (4,300 m / 11,154 ft)

Today, we have short walk. We start hiking down from Huanacpatay (4,356 m / 14,291 ft) to Huayllapa village (3,490 m / 11,450 ft) during our hiking we can meet some local people with their animals after that village we start walking up to the next campsite which is Huatiac at (4,300 m / 11,154 ft) and we stay overnight there in tents.

Day 09: Huatiac (4,300 m / 11,154 ft) - Tapush Punta Pass (4,770 m / 15,649 ft) - Ancush (4,400 m / 14,435 ft)
We start hike up from Huatiac (4,300 m / 11,154 ft) to Tapush Punta Pass (4,770 m / 15,649 ft) from this high point we can enjoy the view of Diablo Mudo Peak. After that we hike down to Gashpapampa at (4,500 m / 14,763 ft) and then continue until the next campsite which is Ancush at (4400 m / 14435 ft) and we stay overnight there in tents.

Day 10: Ancush (4,400 m / 14,435 ft) - Paso Yaucha (4,850 m / 15,912 ft) - Jahuacocha Lake (4,150 m / 13,615 ft)
We start hike up from Ancush (4,400m / 14,435ft) to Yaucha Pass (4,850 m / 15,912 ft) from the pass we can enjoy the view of Diablo Mudo peak, Rondoy peak, Jirishanca peak, Jerupaja peaks after that, we go down for Huacrish valley there some farm animals like cows, horses, and we can see some condors flying over there. Finally, we arrive to Jahuacocha Lake it is below Rasac peak, Yerupaja peaks, Jirishanca peak, it is at (4,150 m / 13,615 ft) and stay overnight there in tents.

Day 11: Jahuacocha Lake (4,150 m / 13,615 ft) - Llamac (3,250 m. / 10,662 ft) - Huaraz (3,100 m / 10,170 ft)

 Our last breakfast in the campsite, we start walking down along the valley we hike up to Pampa Llamac and finally to Llamac village where the car wait for us in order to transfer us to the Hotel in Huaraz.
